IT Systems Administrator

Exempt: Yes                                                                                         Reports to: IT Director

Hours: 40 per week Date: August 2017

 

SUMMARY: The Systems Administrator is responsible for effective positioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software and related infrastructure. This position comprises of advanced technical work including hardware maintenance of personal computer networks. This position performs maintenance of the computer networks, and provides application support for the end users. This position also includes computer systems and the ways people use them in an organization. This entails knowledge of operating systems and applications, as well as hardware and software troubleshooting, but also knowledge of the purposes for which people in the organization use the computers.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Consults with Director on feasibility of system requests.
  • Assists and trains end users with computer related issues.
  • Planning for and responding to service outages and other problems.
  • Analyzes future needs.
  • Develops and writes procedures for installation, use and solving problems of communications, hardware and software.
  • Resolving resources issues.
  • General scripting, PowerShell automation and troubleshooting of systems and applications.
  • Supporting domain networking services such as DNS, DDNS, and DHCP.
  • Proactive systems monitoring and maintenance with native and 3rd party
  • Maintaining software applications, operating systems and regular maintenance.
  • Work effectively with development, support and other System Administrators to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues as identified by the customer.
  • Troubleshoot performance issues with virtual desktop platforms and virtualized server platforms;
  • Manage and support OS level, Server and Client side applications, associated hardware, and other relevant IT services
  • Generate operations reports related to system capacity and utilization
  • Regularly review system logs for issue prevention and provide timely resolution to discovered issues;
  • Perform regular systems maintenance, including host, VM, and application updates;
  • Perform data backup operations, and maintain the backup systems;
  • Manage and complete assigned tasks and tickets in a timely and proficient manner while documenting work completed;
  • Perform Active Directory domain-related maintenance tasks;
  • Implement regularly planned infrastructure refreshes
  • Works with Monitoring and Alerting teams to automate incident creation, response, and self- healing scripts
  • Assists Problem Management with root cause analysis and tracks assigned actions within team to closure
  • Monitor, maintain and inventory; network infrastructure, network systems and components, system administration and desktop systems with associated peripheral equipment
  • Deploy and maintain enterprise virtual desktop infrastructure environments
  • Apply patches, update and upgrades to servers, workstations, and stored images
  • Perform network scans as requested / required.
  • All other duties as required.

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. This individual must display problem solving skills frequently under various sorts of constraints and stress. This individual is on call when a computer system goes down or malfunctions, and must be able to quickly and correctly diagnose what is wrong and how best to fix it.   • Considerable knowledge of the utilization, operation and care of computer and related electronic computer equipment and networks.
  • Considerable knowledge of the general principles of computer systems operation, including potential uses and limitations.

  • Ability to supervise the operation of computer and related equipment.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Graduation from an accredited university or college with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, math or related area is required. The applicant must have a minimum of two years experience in data processing operations including one (1) year of experience in program/analyst work in the computer hardware maintenance area, or associates degree in Computer Science, Math or related area and three (3) years experience in data processing including one (1) year experience in computer hardware maintenance. High school graduation supplemented by special programming courses in one or more computer languages and four (4) years experience in data processing operations including one year of experience in computer hardware maintenance may be substituted for associates degree or college degree requirements.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/ADA: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long of periods of time viewing a computer screen. Some of these functions include accessing file cabinets for filing and retrieval of data.
