GYM SUPERVISOR
 

Pay Grade: 8                                                                          Dept: Parks & Recreation
Exempt:  No                                                                           Reports to: Center Director
Hours: Part Time - No Benefits                                           Date:  April, 2017


SUMMARY:   This position supervises and directs the activities and programs in Chisholm center year round.  This position includes technical recreation work involving responsibility for activities at the public recreational center.  Work is performed under the supervision of the Chisholm Center Director
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  • May assist in the supervision of parks and recreation programs during many programs seven days a week.
  • Schedules activities and summer day trips including reservations and collections.
  • Public relations with other DeLand organizations, businesses, and civic groups.
  • Maintains telephone and personal contact for both Center activities and public information.
  • Schedules any extra activities.
  • Supervises and plans summer camp program and two holiday camps per year.
  • Organizes and plans large special events such as Annual Easter Egg Hunt and Halloween Contest.
 
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and /or abilities required.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
 
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Graduation from High School and courses taken in Recreation or related fields is preferred.  Extensive experience in recreational work is required, or any equivalent combination of education, experience, or training.
 
LANGUAGE SKILLS:  The applicant must have the ability to develop and maintain good public relations with civic groups, and ability to deal effectively with senior citizens, individuals, and groups.  The employee must be able to communicate both orally and in writing. 
 
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Thorough knowledge of objectives, operation, and programs of public recreation.
  • Good knowledge of safety factors.
 
WORK ENVIRONMENT/ADAWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to put legs, feet, or hands in water, and may work in noisy conditions.
