JOB DESCRIPTION

 

COLLEGE INTERNSHIP (NON-PROFIT ADMINISTRATION)

 

Pay Grade: $12.00 per hour Dept: Administrative Services

Exempt: No Reports to: Asst City Manager

Hours: 20 per week/Part Time Date: March 2017

 

SUMMARY: Performs a variety of administrative support services for a city project in partnership with a local non-profit agency. The position calls for the exercise of judgment in the application of prescribed procedures and methods to routine matters. Depending upon the nature of the assignment, the work may be done under close or general supervision and checked by another step in an administrative process or by an immediate supervisor. Persons employed in this classification do not gain regular status or accrue benefits with the city regardless of length of service.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Under the direction of professional staff, performs assignments requiring research, analysis, and resolution.

  • Observes experienced workers to acquire knowledge of methods, procedures, and standards relative to field of study.

  • May perform field research to complete assigned project or task.

  • May provide administrative support to professional staff, which may involve assisting with correspondence, budget, personnel, citizen's committees, special boards and process management.

  • May perform technical duties requiring knowledge of specialized field of expertise.

  • Maintains logs and other records.

  • Must operate a computer.

  • Delivers and picks up material.

  • Accesses, inputs and retrieves information from a computer.

  • May takes messages and transfers calls.

  • Performs related work as required.

     

    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and /or abilities required.     EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Must be currently enrolled in a college or university. High school graduation required. Business/non-profit background desirable, or any equivalent combination of education, experience and training.

     

    LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as legal documents, personnel forms, and data sheets. Applicant must also be able to communicate effectively with employees and the general public. Bilingual (Spanish) also preferred.

     

    REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram forms. Applicant must also be able to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations when immediate guidance from the supervisor may not be available.

     

    OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

     

  • Applicant must have knowledge and ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing to include: reports, memos, letters and summaries.

  • Ability to organize facts and data in a meaningful manner and draw conclusions.

  • Ability to work independently.

  • Ability to read complex materials including technical journals, professional journals, abstracts, etc.

  • Ability to speak and communicate complex ideas and information.

  • Ability to perform general mathematical functions.

  • Good judgment.

  • Tact and courtesy.

  • Ability to use MS Office to produce written products.

    Vision: 20/20 or Corrected to 20/20

    Hearing: Normal Noise Levels for Office Environment
