Water Plant Operator “B”

Hours: 40 per week                                                                             Date: 2020

 

SUMMARY: This position assists in the operation of a water treatment plant. This position requires daily plant site operations in order to maintain safe and aesthetically pleasing water. Employee will be required to handle hazardous chemicals. The employee may also be responsible for the ground maintenance program, janitorial duties, and compound security on a shift. The employee reports to Assistant Water Plant Superintendent.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operates the water plant and is responsible for a shift.
  • Reports any operational deficiencies to supervisor
  • Must be available for after hours call outs
  • Maintaining adequate chemical supplies for daily operations
  • Maintains daily logs and records.
  • Checks all equipment.
  • Performs preventive maintenance.
  • Performs minor laboratory work.
  • May operate equipment on occasion, such as tractor, and trucks.
  • Answers telephone calls and dispatches emergency crew.
  • Monitors and operates computers for alarms and proper operation of water plants.

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and /or abilities required. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Graduate of an accredited high school or possess an acceptable equivalency diploma. Must be able to utilize all features afforded by computer technology software, report writing programs and other required software and micro-computer equipment utilized by the assigned work unit. The applicant must maintain a valid Class “B” Water Operators License issued by the FDEP, CPR / AED qualified and must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license.

 

REASONING ABILITLY: The applicant must have the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram forms. The applicant must also be able to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations when immediate guidance from the supervisor may not be available.

 

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Extensive knowledge of the treatment process and the maintenance and repair of the plant equipment.
  • Extensive knowledge of current SCADA operation
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to maintain shift records and perform routine chemical analysis.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good personal relations with other employees and the public.

 

 

 

REQUIRED LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES:

  • Valid Driver License

  • Class “B” Water Operators License issued by the FDEP

  • CPR and AED Certificate

     

    WORK ENVIRONMENT/ADA: While performing the duties of this job, the employee may reach, climb, walk, stand, stoop, drive, balance or push to complete job task. The employee may work in an office environment or outside in various weather conditions. The employee may work in or with moving vehicles and/or equipment. The employee may also come in contact with heights, electrical energy, poor lighting, darkness, odors, and may be required to have legs, feet, or hands in water while on the job.
