Reports To: Parks and Recreation Director                                       Pay Grade/Wage: 115

Position Type: Full-Time                                                                   Hours: 40 hrs/week

Job Summary:

This position supervises and directs a recreation / community center in providing opportunities for residents to engage in meaningful social and diversified recreation programs based upon needs, interests of the community or those subscribed by the Parks and Recreation Department. This position must coordinate, develop, and maintain quality programs that provide mental and physical stimulation to the patrons of the community center.

 

Job Description:

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plans, organizes and coordinates a community recreation program including physical activities, human services, educational programs, and special interest classes and programs.

  • Determines work procedures, prepares work schedules, and expedites work flow.

  • Coordinates, schedules, and maintains related statistics for programs and personnel.

  • Promotes and provides information regarding programs to community leaders, recreation officials, community service groups, other departments and the general public.

  • Assures effective and efficient use of budgeted funds, personnel, materials, facilities, and time.

  • Recruits and trains part time, seasonal, and volunteer staff for activities.

  • Designs and publishes a variety of brochures, calendars, letters, posters, news releases, flyers, and related communications.

  • Serves on various committees as requested by administration.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Recreation, Communication, Marketing or related field is required.

  • Extensive experience in recreational work is required.

  • An equivalent combination of education, experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered for minimum requirements.

LICENSES AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must pass a state of Florida Level 2 background.

  • Must be American Red Cross or American Heart Association Heart-Saver First Aid/CPR/AED certified or get certified within six (6) months of hire.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license with an acceptable driving record is required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Ability to clearly and effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to provide good customer service and deal with the general public in a professional, courteous manner.

  • Ability to develop and maintain good personal relationship with other employees and the public.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City employees, City officials, other agency officials, civic groups and the general public.

REASONING ABILITY

  • Ability to follow and apply common sense understanding, to carry out instructions furnished in written and oral form.

  • Exercise independent judgment in the performance of specifically assigned responsibilities.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Thorough knowledge of objectives, operation, and programs of public recreation.
  • Considerable knowledge of recreation philosophy, planning, and administration.
  • Knowledge of aquatic activities, scheduling and facility usage.
  • Good knowledge of safety factors.
  • Knowledge of rental agreements.
  • Ability to use a computer, with knowledge in the use of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work in a diverse environment.
  • Available seven days a week days and evenings.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/ADA: While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to put legs, feet, or hands in water, and may work in noisy conditions.
