MAINTENANCE WORKER I

Department: 143 Parks & Recreation                                        Exempt: No

Reports To: Foreman                                                                 Pay Grade 107

Position Type: Full-Time                                                          Hours: 40 hrs/week

 

Job Summary: This position performs a variety of semi-skilled manual tasks under direct supervision of a foreman, lead worker, or other higher level classified employees. Duties may involve the use of hand and power tools and the operation of light truck and construction equipment as a part of the assignment. Duties may be performed under adverse weather or working conditions.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs yard maintenance such as cutting grass, edging, weeding, laying sod, spreading grass seed and fertilizing.

  • Other duties include: unskilled painting, cleaning and patching potholes, removing dirt and grease from vehicles, assisting in concrete work, spraying for insects, changing tires, servicing automotive equipment, cleaning ditches, and digging excavations.

  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • High school or general education degree (GED) from an accredited institution is required.

  • Irrigation and tree trim/grounds cleanup experience is desired.

  • An equivalent combination of education, experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered for minimum requirements.

LICENSES AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Possession of a valid Florida driver's license and an acceptable driving record is required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to read and write.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public.

  • Ability to develop and maintain good personal relationship with other employees and the public.

REASONING ABILITY

  • Ability to follow and apply common sense understanding, to carry out instructions furnished in written and oral form.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to work independently and in a diligent manner.

  • Ability to use various hand and power tools related to the job.

  • Good physical condition is essential.

 

 

 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT/ADA: This job requires walking, standing, pushing, bending, stooping, equipment operation and driving. The employee may work in an office environment or outside in various weather conditions. Working in or with moving vehicles and/or equipment may be required as well as working from heights, in dusty condition, with hands, feet, and/or legs in water and may handle chemicals.

Lifting: Lift up to 45 Pounds

Vision: 20/20 or Corrected to 20/100

Environment: Inside Work/Outside Work in Various Conditions-Hearing:- Normal Noise Levels for Work Environment
