METER TECHNICIAN
Pay Grade: 109 - $12.37/hour Dept: Finance/Customer Service/Utility Billing
Exempt: No Reports to: Utility Billing Supervisor
Hours: 40 per week Date: 2018
SUMMARY: The employee maintains radio read meters and provides general assistance in performing radio reads for the residents of the City.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Operates assigned vehicle and travels to an assigned areas of the City for maintaining radio read meters or performing reading water meters and recording the information.
- Trouble shoots radio read meters, identifying and resolving problems.
- Repairs radio read meters as needed.
- Inspects the meters for leaks, broken boxes, broken connections, and safety hazards.
- Cleans and maintains vehicle in good condition.
- Works service orders and turn offs, and turn ons as required.
- Performs minor maintenance including lid repairs and box cleaning.
- Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Graduation from high school/GED is required and sufficient education to install and repair radio read meters, perform readings of those meters, and to work service orders as necessary. A comparable amount of education, training, or experience may be substituted for the minimum requirements.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of streets in the greater DeLand area is desirable.
- Ability to follow written and oral directions.
- Ability to write in a clear and effective manner.
- Ability to locate addresses in assigned locations.
- Possess excellent customer service skills
- Ability to deal tactfully with the public.
- Employee must possess a valid Florida driver’s license.
- Ability to identify and resolve problems.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/ADA: The applicant must be in good physical condition. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to walk, stand, kneel, bend, stoop, or drive. The employee will work outside in various weather conditions and in or with moving vehicles and/or equipment.
