UTILITY EQUIPMENT MECHANIC - I

 

 

Pay Grade: 113                                                                      Dept: Utilities

Exempt: No                                                                           Reports to: Foreman

Hours: 40 per week                                                               Date: 2018

 

SUMMARY: This position performs a variety of skilled and semiskilled manual tasks in the repair, maintenance, and installation of utility equipment. Some trades tasks may approach the journeyman level but do not function at the full trades journeymen levels. Duties may involve the use of trades tools and the operation of light construction equipment as a part of the assignment. Duties may be performed under adverse weather conditions.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Under limited supervision, performs such duties as maintenance and repair of equipment at water / wastewater plants, lift stations, generators, and storm pump stations.
  • Will assist with the installation of new equipment.
  • Complete maintenance log books at facilities and update schedules.
  • On call rotation is required for this position.
  • Responds to after hours emergencies as needed.
  • Performs maintenance on vehicles and small equipment
  • Operate lift station SCADA system network

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: A high school diploma or GED is required. Considerable experience in a semiskilled capacity in work similar to public utilities is required or any combination of experience and education. A FDEP Level III Water Distribution License, or a class “C” certificate issued by the FWPCOA in collection system operations and a reclaim distribution license is highly desired.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS: The applicant must have the ability to develop and maintain good personal relationship with others, and communicate both orally and in writing.

 

REASONING ABILITY: The applicant must have the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram forms. The applicant must also be able to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations when immediate guidance from the supervisor may not be available.

 

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Some knowledge of the methods of utility equipment repair and in the use and care of tools and equipment used in repairs and maintenance of utility equipment.
  • Ability to understand oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans and specifications.
  • Ability to keep computerized records and create reports.
  • Extensive knowledge of safety practices in the maintenance and construction trades.
  • Ability to operate light equipment.
  • Possess a valid Florida driver’s CDL class “B” license is required.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT/ADA: While performing the duties of this job, the employee may reach, climb, walk, stand, stoop, drive, balance or push to complete job task. The employee may work in an office environment or outside in various weather conditions. The employee may work in or with moving vehicles and/or equipment. The employee may also come in contact with heights, electrical energy, poor lighting, darkness, odors, and may be required to have legs, feet, or hands in water while on the job.
