MAINTENANCE REPAIR WORKER
 
 
Pay Grade: 111                                                                      Dept: Utilities
Exempt:  No                                                                           Reports to: Superintendent/Foreman
Hours: 40 per week                                                               Date: 2018
 

SUMMARY:   This position performs a variety of semi-skilled tasks which may approach the journeyman level, but not at full level.  Duties involve the use of trade tools and the operation of light construction equipment.  This class is distinguished from the Maintenance Worker- Level III by the variety and complexity of the tasks and the minimum supervision. 
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Performs construction and repair in buildings and other facilities.
  • Builds and/or repairs partitions, roofs, ceilings, doors, furniture, shelves and tables, old facilities, fencing, playground equipment.
  • Cleans filters and performs minor repair work on air conditioners and small engines.
  • Builds forms for concrete repair and pours and finishes concrete.
  • Installs and/or repairs new plumbing fixtures, irrigation systems, window frames, door locks, window air conditioning units, and bleachers.
  • Applies herbicides, insecticides, and fertilizers.
  • May supervise a crew of semi-skilled workers.
  • Operates power tools and a variety of maintenance equipment.
  • Maintains athletic fields and manages turf in the parks.
  • Performs minor electrical repairs.
  • Paints a variety of surfaces.
 
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and /or abilities required.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
 
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma is required.  The applicant must have considerable experience in a semi-skilled capacity in maintenance duties, in work similar to public works and public utilities, or the construction trades is desired. A comparable amount of education, training, or experience may be substituted for minimum requirements. 
 
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 
  • Possess a valid Florida CDL Class B driver’s license.
  • Possess the physical ability to handle heavy building materials and climbing stairs.
  • Ability to perform detailed tasks such as reading blueprints and drawing sketch plans for building repairs and changes.
  • Ability to perform work in a consistently safe manner.
  • Must have a basic understanding of electrical systems and their operation, and of various kinds of lumber.
  • Capability of adequate eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity.
  • Ability to read safety manuals, operation guides, instructions, letters, memos, journals, maps, work order, blueprints, and professional journals.
  • Ability to perform basic and advanced mathematical calculations and shop math (addition, subtraction, division, multiplication, fractions, algebra, calculus, statistics)
 
WORK ENVIRONMENT/ADAThis job requires walking, standing, bending, stooping, and driving.  The employee may work in an office environment or outside in various weather conditions.  Working in or with moving vehicles and/or equipment may be required as well as working from heights, with radiant energy, with hands, feet and/or legs in water and may handle various solvents and chemicals.
