POLICE COMMUNITY SERVICE AIDE (CSA)
  
 
Pay Grade: 111                                                                              Dept: Police
Exempt: No                                                                                   Reports to: Support Comdander.
Hours: 40 per wek                                                                         Date: April, 2016
 
SUMMARY: This position is responsible for representing the Police Department in conducting daily interactions from handling service request and non-emergency situations for the citizens of the City of DeLand. This position reports to and administrative duties are assigned by the Support Commander.   
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  • Serves as Department representative in the community and at local functions.
  • Provides resources and referral information to the community.
  • Duties assigned include fingerprinting citizens, inspecting vehicles that were cited for improper or defective equipment and taking reports from citizens on minor incidents that do not require a sworn officer to respond.
  • Directs traffic at crash scenes.
  • Accesses input and retrieves information from a computer.
  • Takes reports on minor accidents.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required. Law enforcement training and/or experience is preferred but not required.
 
LANGUAGE SKILLS:  The applicant must have the ability to establish and maintain effective public and employee relations.  The applicant must also possess the ability to establish and maintain satisfactory working relationships with officials and employees of the various municipal departments.
 
REASONING ABILITY:  The applicant must have the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram forms. The applicant must also be able to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations when immediate guidance from the supervisor may not be available. The employee must be able to speak and deal directly with the public in an amiable manner and be able to communicate under times of emergencies

  • Ability to prepare clear and comprehensive reports as well as written and oral instructions.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/ADAWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to reach, climb, walk, stand, kneel, bend, stoop, throw, drive, taste, balance, crawl, push and smell. The employee may work outside in various weather conditions, in or with moving vehicles and/or equipment, with heights, radiant energy, electrical energy, grease or oils, solvents, chemicals, and in dusty or noisy conditions
