MAINTENANCE WORKER III
 
 
Pay Grade: 11                                                                                      Dept: Utility/P&R/PW
Exempt:  No                                                                                        Reports to: Foreman
Hours: 40 per week                                                                           
 
SUMMARY:   This position performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled manual tasks under limited supervision.  This job involves the use of hand and power tools and the operation of light truck and construction equipment as a part of the assignment.  Duties may be performed under adverse weather or working conditions. 
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  • Possesses a C.D.L. needed Class B.
  • Performs duties such as laying pipe, pouring and forming sidewalks, installing water meters, and repairing broken water lines. 
  • Performs yard maintenance including cutting, trimming, planting, and seeding.
  • Performs simple maintenance on automotive vehicles and equipment.
  • Repairs parking meters and lawn sprinklers.
  • Maintains equipment and supplies.
  • Performs duties such as painting buildings and structures, erecting traffic signs, and striping City parking lots and streets.
  • Makes simple chemical tests at well pumps.
  • Performs simple trade tasks such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and welding.
  • Operates sewer locator T.V. and sewer jet.
  • Marks and locates force mains and lateral.
  • Performs routine custodial work and does minor repairs.
  • Performs a variety of other related tasks.
 
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and /or abilities required.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
 
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Graduation from high school or a GED is required.  Considerable experience in a semiskilled capacity in work similar to Public Works and public utilities or the construction trade is required.  A comparable amount of education, training, or experience may be substituted for minimum requirements. 
 
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
 
  • Ability to understand oral and written directions.
  • Knowledge of the methods of utility line repair; the use and care of construction tools and equipment; and maintenance of structures, utility lines, sidewalks, and lawn maintenance.
 
WORK ENVIRONMENT/ADAThis job requires walking, standing, pushing, bending, stooping, equipment operation and driving and employee works outside in various weather conditions.  Working in or with moving vehicles and/or equipment may be required as well as working from heights, in dusty condition, with hands, feet, and/or legs in water and may handle chemicals.
