PARK RANGER
 
 
Pay Grade: 7                                                                            Dept: P&R
Exempt:  No                                                                             Reports to: Recreation Manager
Hours: 20-25 per week            (Part time only)                            

SUMMARY:   Emphasis for this position is placed on the protection and preservation of parks in a natural state, maintaining park facilities, and providing such visitor services as patrol, enforcement, emergency response and interpretation.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 
 
  • Performs patrol duties to provide parks and open space visitor assistance.
  • Assures compliance with park rules and regulations.
  • Manages park patrol and security.
  • May provide first response emergency services within established response areas including responding to vehicle accidents, administering emergency medical aid, fighting Wildland fires and completing incident reports.
  • Responsible for the daily securing of parks, and the inspection City-owned park facilities.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or GED is desired. An equivalent combination of experience and education may be substituted for minimum requirements.
 
LANGUAGE SKILLS:  The applicant must have the ability to develop and maintain good personal relationship with others, and communicate both orally and in writing.
 
REASONING ABILITLY:  The applicant must have the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram forms. The applicant must also be able to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations when immediate guidance from the supervisor may not be available.
 
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
 
 
  • Demonstrate the ability to use common tools and equipment used in park and open space operations and interpretation.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in both written and oral formats, interact with others, and to assimilate and understand information in a manner consistent with the essential job functions.
  • Ability to make sound decisions in a manner consistent with the essential job functions.
  • Possession of a valid Florida Driver's License.
 
WORK ENVIRONMENT/ADAWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee may reach, climb, walk, stand, stoop, drive, balance or push to complete job task.  The employee may work in an office environment or outside in various weather conditions.  The employee may work in or with moving vehicles and/or equipment.  The employee may also come in contact with heights, electrical energy, poor lighting, darkness, odors, and may be required to have legs, feet, or hands in water while on the job.
