SENIOR MASTER ELECTRICIAN
Pay Grade: 120 Dept: Utilities
Exempt: No Reports to: Utilities Director
Hours: 40 per week Date: December, 2017
SUMMARY: This is responsible skilled work at the master electrician level in the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical equipment, mechanical equipment, instrumentation and control equipment. Work is performed under general direction.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Initiates and performs preventative maintenance programs.
- Inspects complex electrical and control equipment for proper operation.
- Repairs all electrical equipment and electronic components including lamp replacement.
- Performs routine inspections on operating equipment.
- Orders parts and materials as needed.
- Coordinates with power and others as needed.
- Installs electrical circuitry, devices, and controls as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma is required. State of Florida Certified Master Electrician license is preferred. In lieu of CME license, candidates will be considered with proof of a valid Volusia County ER license. Should the ER license be issued from other than Volusia County, candidate will have 60 days in order to transfer the ER license to Volusia County. Considerable experience in the maintenance of high voltage electrical systems and equipment, including experience in the repair and installation of instrumentation including: primary sensing devices, indicators, recorders, automated controls, radio telemetry equipment, small transformers, motor controls, 480 volt equipment, transfer switches, generators, control panels, general building power and lighting is required. VFD drive experience in troubleshooting, installing and programming. Basic construction knowledge with management experience preferred. A comparable amount of education, training, or experience may be substituted for minimum requirements.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge and experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of all sizes of electrical equipment, controls, instrumentation, and mechanical equipment, such as, but not limited to controls, telemetry, recorders, transformers, switches, and engines and related equipment.
- Knowledge of standard practices, tools, terminology, and safety standards of the electrical and mechanical trades.
- Ability to work independently and possess sufficient agility and strength to perform manual work.
- Must be a team player and willing to be on call after hours.
- Ability to respond to emergencies 24 hours a day.
- Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
- Must be able to read safety manuals, instructions, memos, blueprints, schematics, financial reports, work orders, and professional journals.
- Possess a valid Florida driver’s license.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/ADA: The employee may work inside in an office environment or outside in various weather conditions. The employee may be required to lift or carry up to 45 pounds, work in or with moving vehicles, from heights, electrical energy, grease or oils, or on uneven surfaces.
