WASTEWATER PLANT OPERATOR “C”
 
 
Pay Grade:  O101                                                                   Dept: Utilities/Wastewater Plant
Exempt:  No                                                                            Reports to: Superintendent
Hours: 40 per week                                                                Date: December, 2017
 
SUMMARY:   This position assists in the operation of a wastewater treatment plant. This position is responsible for proper operations and treatment during an assigned shift. The employee may also be in charge of the ground maintenance program and compound security on a shift. The employee reports to Wastewater Treatment Plant Superintendent.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  • Operates the water plant or sewer plant and is responsible for a shift.
  • Maintains daily logs and records.
  • Checks all equipment.
  • Performs preventive maintenance.
  • Performs minor laboratory work.
  • May operate equipment on occasion, such as tractor, and trucks.
  • Answers telephone calls and dispatches emergency crew.
  • Monitors and operates computers for alarms and proper operation of lift stations, plants and collections systems.
 
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and /or abilities required.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
 
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: A high school diploma or GED is desired. Experience as a wastewater treatment operator is required or equivalent combination of experience and education. The applicant must posses a “C” (or higher) State of Florida certification as a water plant or wastewater treatment plant operator.
 
LANGUAGE SKILLS:  The applicant must have the ability to develop and maintain good personal relationship with others, and communicate both orally and in writing.
 
REASONING ABILITY:  The applicant must have the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram forms. The applicant must also be able to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations when immediate guidance from the supervisor may not be available.
 
 OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
 
  • Considerable knowledge of the treatment process and the maintenance and repair of the plant equipment.
  • Ability to maintain shift records and perform routine chemical analysis.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good personal relations with other employees and the public.
  • Possess a valid Florida driver’s license.
 
WORK ENVIRONMENT/ADAWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee may reach, climb, walk, stand, stoop, drive, balance or push to complete job task.  The employee may work in an office environment or outside in various weather conditions.  The employee may work in or with moving vehicles and/or equipment.  The employee may also come in contact with heights, electrical energy, poor lighting, darkness, odors, and may be required to have legs, feet, or hands in water while on the job.
