Summary:  Performs semi-skilled work in the construction, maintenance and repair projects relating to buildings and facilities.  Operates equipment in connection with tasks assigned. This position requires customer contact.  Work involves maintenance, repair, installation, renovation, relocation, and removal within the buildings and facilities in the Utilities Department.  Work is performed under the supervision of the Instrumental Control and Electrical Supervisor.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Operates power tools including cut-off saw, chain saw, power drill, reciprocating saw, generators, and air-powered tools and trade tools and the operation of light construction equipment.
• Maintains, cleans, refuels, and organizes vehicles; stocks inventory with needed parts and equipment.
• Maintains inventory, stocks new and existing parts and materials; maintains city-issued electronics including cell phones and laptops; reports inventory levels to supervisor.  Maintains power tools including saws, pumps, drills, etc.
• Perform maintenance and minor repairs in buildings and facilities.
• Build forms for concrete repairs and pours.
• Pressure wash equipment, piping systems, and prepare and paint surfaces.
• Operate power tools and a variety of maintenance equipment.
• Performs intermediate plumbing, including PVC, pipe fittings, and threaded-pipe repairs.
• Serves as essential personnel during natural or man-made disasters and emergencies.
• Performs minor electrical repairs.
• Possesses a valid Florida Drivers License.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:    Graduate of an accredited high school or possess an acceptable equivalency diploma and considerable experience in a semi-skilled capacity in building maintenance or construction trades is desired. A comparable amount of education, training, or experience may be substituted for minimum requirements.  The individual must maintain a Class B Florida Commercial Drivers License with Air Brake and Tanker endorsements.  The individual must be in good physical condition and have ability to accept and understand directions.  Within one year must be CPR / AED qualified.

REASONING ABILITY: The applicant must have the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram forms. The applicant must also be able to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations when immediate guidance from the supervisor may not be available.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
• Knowledge of tools, equipment and materials used in the maintenance and repair of buildings and facilities preferred.
• Ability to learn streets and locations of utilities properties within the service area.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by the work.
• Ability to fill out reports and work orders with good penmanship.
• Ability to communicate effectively and courteously with the public.
• Ability to work independently in a diligent manner.
• Possess the physical ability to handle heavy building materials and climbing stairs.
• Ability to perform detailed tasks such as reading blueprints and drawing sketch plans for building repairs and changes.
• Ability to perform work in a consistently safe manner.
• Must have a basic understanding of electrical systems and their operation, and of various kinds of lumber.
• Capability of adequate eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity.
• Ability to read safety manuals, operation guides, instructions, letters, memos, journals, maps, work order, blueprints, and professional journals.
• Ability to perform basic and advanced mathematical calculations and shop math (addition, subtraction, division, multiplication, fractions, algebra, calculus, statistics)

REQUIRED LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES:
• Class B Commercial Driver License with Air Brake and Tanker Endorsements

WORK ENVIRONMENT/ADA:  This job requires walking, standing, pushing, bending, stooping, equipment operation and driving.  The employee will work outside in various weather conditions.  Working in or with moving vehicles and/or equipment may be required as well as working from heights, in dusty condition, with hands, feet, and/or legs in wastewater and may handle chemicals.
