EQUIPMENT OPERATOR I - Right of Way Mowing

Department: 450/Stormwater

Exempt: No

Reports To:  Foreman

Pay Grade - 104

Position Type:  Full-Time

 Hours: 40 hrs/week

Job Summary:

This position is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of vehicles, mowers, specialized equipment, light, medium, and heavy equipment. The work requires considerable skill in operating motor equipment and constant awareness of safety operation in order to prevent accidents. Assignments are outlined in detail by superiors. Standard procedures should be followed and work is inspected periodically for safety and efficiency in operation. This class differs from Maintenance Worker classes because of the higher degree of skill required, the amount of time spent in operating the equipment, and the greater probability to damage the more expensive equipment. Supervision may be exercised over other employees.

Job Description:

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Operates lawn equipment such as mowers.
  • Operates side arm mowers, medium trucks, and medium trucks pulling trailers.
  • Drives truck and trailer combinations to haul equipment.
  • Services equipment and operates medium or light automotive equipment.
  • Works as a laborer when required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) from an U.S. Department of Education accredited institution is required.
  • An equivalent combination of education, experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered for minimum requirements.

LICENSES AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Possession of valid CDL class “B” motor vehicles operator's license issued by the State of Florida with an acceptable driving record is required.
  • Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) Intermediate or Higher

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Significant experience in the operation of mowing equipment, medium trucks, and medium trucks with trailers.
  • Chemical Spray Licensure

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Ability to read and write neatly.
  • Ability to clearly and effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to develop and maintain good personal relationship with other employees and the public.

REASONING ABILITY

  • Ability to follow and apply common sense understanding, to carry out instructions furnished in written and oral form.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to work independently with other employees and the general public.
  • Good understanding of traffic laws, ordinances, and rules involved in equipment operation.
  • Ability to operate equipment skillfully, safely, and in accordance with traffic laws and regulations.
  • Good knowledge of the hazards, applicable safety rules, and precautions in heavy equipment operation.
  • Ability to detect needed repairs and to make necessary adjustments.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/ADA: Employee may work inside an office environment, or outside in various weather conditions, with radiant energy, grease or oils, solvents, or chemicals. Employees may have to work in dusty conditions, poor lighting, noisy conditions, and darkness or on uneven surfaces. Some job tasks may require employee to bend, stoop, drive, kneel, operate equipment, crawl, push or lift or carry 75 pounds or less.

Vision: 20/20 or Corrected to 20/100

Environment:  Inside Work/Outside Work in Various Conditions

Hearing: Moderate Noise Levels for Work Environment
