HVAC TECHNICIAN I

JOB SUMMARY:
The HVAC Technician is responsible for performing repairs and scheduled maintenance to a variety of equipment including: refrigeration, air conditioning, electric motors, heating units, heat pumps, intake and exhaust fans, economizers, split systems, and packaged units throughout City buildings and Facilities.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform all levels of air conditioning equipment trouble shooting, repair, and replacement of components.
- Perform preventative and predictive maintenance on HVAC systems through planned and scheduled work orders.
- Assist in project planning for asset maintenance.
- Calibrate controls to maintain design temperature and humidity.
- Must adhere to Federal, State, County and Local ordinances.
- Responds to emergency situations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) from a U.S. Department of Education accredited institution is required.
- At least five (5) years of experience in the HVAC trade as an HVAC service technician.
LICENSES AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- EPA Type II (Preferred) or possess an HVAC Technical School diploma/degree and have at least five (5) years of experience in the HVAC trade as an HVAC service technician.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Must be First Aid and CPR/AED certified or become certified within six (6) months of hire.
- Must pass background check.
PREFERRED SKILLS AND LICENSES
- Understanding of refrigeration recovery, evacuation and charging
- Understanding of the installation and sizing of refrigerant piping.
- Ability to maintain maintenance records as required by City, State, and EPA regulations.
- Ability to read electrical schematics and mechanical blueprints.
- Ability to braze and solder various metals to connect piping.
- Ability to make adjustments with the Building Automation Programs.
- Basic understanding of electrical as it pertains to HVAC components.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
- Ability to clearly and effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to read and write neatly.
- Ability to provide good customer service and deal with the building tenants in a professional, courteous manner.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and building tenants.
REASONING ABILITY
- Ability to follow and apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written and oral form.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment in the performance of specifically assigned responsibilities.
- Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations when immediate guidance from the supervisor may not be available.
- Ability to read and comprehend safety manuals, work orders, operation guides, legal documents, instructions, letters, memos, journals, and maps.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Ability to work independently and in a diligent manner.
- Good physical condition is essential.
- Ability to use a computer, with knowledge in the use of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to read and comprehend work orders, safety instructions, maps, blueprints, mechanical drawings, instructions, procedures, memos.
- Skilled in performing shop math and in writing simple sentences relaying information, data and details to others.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/ADA: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to see, hear, stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach overhead, climb, grasp, lift, carry, pull, push 75 pounds or more. Inside and outside work is required. May require exposure to inclement weather (heat, humidity, cold, rain), hazardous conditions, chemicals, dust, confined spaces and poor ventilation.
