Job Summary:
This position assists in organizing and administering a portion of the Department’s overall program of leisure and recreational activities. This position also assists the Deputy Director in program and activity scheduling and administration.
Job Description:
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists in scheduling, organizing and supervising a variety of leisure and recreational programs and activities under the direction of the departmental management.
- Works with community groups, groups of young people, senior citizens and other age groups developing, promoting and implementing recreational and leisure activities.
- Supervises volunteers as required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- High school or general education degree (GED) from an accredited institution is required.
- Some experience in recreational activities relating to youth sports and special event activities etc. is required.
- Some experience in scheduling and carrying out recreational programs and activities is required.
- An equivalent combination of education, experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered for minimum requirements except for licensure/certification requirements.
LICENSES AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license with an acceptable driving record is required.
- Must be Red Cross/YMCA CPR & First Aid trained and certified.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
- Ability to clearly and effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to develop and maintain good personal relationship with other employees and the public.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City employees, City officials, other agency officials, public groups and the general public.
REASONING ABILITY
- Must have the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral forms in a responsible manner.
- Must have the ability to read and interpret documents such as financial reports, letters, and memos.
- Must be able to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations when immediate guidance from the supervisor may not be available.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Ability to personally relate in a positive and professional manner to adults, children and young people.
- Ability to maintain good order in the use of community buildings and facilities.
- Sound knowledge of safety practices in the performance of all assigned activities and programs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/ADA: This job requires walking, standing, bending, stooping, reaching, running, jumping, and driving. The employee may work in an office environment or outside in various weather conditions. The employee may also be required to work in or with moving vehicles.
