Description
We are looking for a currently enrolled in or a recent graduate(within the last two years) of an accredited college or university. Candidates working towards a degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Public Administration, or a related field are preferred. This is work related to college course work in city management performing assigned duties under the direction of a professional staff member(s) to gain career-oriented knowledge and experience.

Job Description

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Supports the Communications team with day-to-day tasks including drafting press releases, social media content, internal communications, and other public-facing materials.
  • Assists with media monitoring, research, and compiling information for communications projects.
  • Observes and learns from experienced communications staff to build familiarity with departmental processes, messaging standards, and public information practices.
  • May assist with maintaining the department's social media presence and digital communications channels.
  • Provides administrative support to professional staff, which may include helping with meeting coordination and records management.
  • May conduct research to support communications campaigns, public outreach efforts, or special projects.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to write clearly for a variety of audiences and formats.
  • Comfortable drafting professional content including press releases, social media posts, memos, and summaries.
  • Ability to conduct research, organize information, and draw clear conclusions.
  • Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; familiarity with social media platforms is a plus.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Enrolled in an accredited college, university or vocational school.
  • Seeking a degree in Communications, Public Administration, Journalism, Public Relations and or an area of study related to the internship will be considered.
  • A full-time undergraduate student (minimum of 12 credit hours in the fall or spring semester; minimum of 6 credit hours in the summer semester); a full-time graduate student (9 credit hours).
  • Undergraduates must maintain a 2.8 GPA or higher on a 4.0 grade scale; graduate students must have a 3.0 GPA or higher.

While performing the duties of this job, the Intern is regularly required to sit for long periods of time performing repetitive functions. The Intern must be able to access file cabinets for filing and retrieve data.
