URBAN BEAUTIFICATION LEAD WORKER I

Job Summary:
Performs a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled manual labor tasks related to landscaping. Work involves limited lead responsibility and personal participation in variety of tasks. In the absence of the Foreman, the Lead Worker shall take on the responsibility of supervising the Urban Beautification crew. In addition to the regular maintenance responsibilities, the Lead Worker will also coordinate staffing for the downtown events. This position may require evening and weekend work.
Job Description:
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs landscape maintenance such as cutting grass, edging, weeding, laying sod, installing plants, spreading grass seed and fertilizing.
- Other duties include unskilled painting, cleaning and litter control, cleaning and maintaining assigned equipment and vehicles.
- Supervising the division in the absence of the Foreman.
- Directing, supervising, and working beside a crew during downtown events.
- Performing other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) from a U.S. Department of Education accredited institution is required.
- Some experience in Public Works or in construction trades is required.
- Some experience as a Maintenance Worker III level or equivalent is preferred.
- Experience in and direct knowledge of the Volusia County Waterwise Landscape Irrigation Ordinance is required.
- An equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered for minimum requirements.
LICENSES AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Possession and maintenance of a valid Florida Driver's License with an acceptable driving record is required.
- Possession and maintenance of Certification in Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) are required.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with government officials, employees and the general public.
- Ability to read and write neatly.
REASONING ABILITY
- Ability to carry out complex instructions furnished in written and verbal form.
- Ability to read and comprehend safety manuals, work orders, operation guides, legal documents, instructions, letters, memos, journals, and maps.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Understand and use proper safety procedures.
- Ability to work independently in a diligent manner.
- Knowledge of simple hand and power tools.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/ADA The employee may work outside in various weather conditions, in or with moving vehicles and/or equipment, with radiant energy, grease or oils, solvents, or chemicals. Employees may have to work in dusty conditions, poor lighting, noisy conditions, and darkness or on uneven surfaces. Some job tasks may require employee to bend, stoop, drive, kneel, operate equipment, crawl, push or lift or carry 45 pounds or more.
